Boston Nature Center and Wildlife Sanctuary

2025

This Pavilion floats at the end of a boardwalk leading out to the middle of a cattail-filled wetland. The structure's thin, wood ribs reference the cattails around it while also standing out as a sinister shape rising above the wetland. The far end of the platform floats on the marsh, which fills up with water seasonally. Depending on the season and water levels, the pavilion gradually rotates, almost breathing with the nature around it. The placement of each rib is very intentional, with the space between increasing as the pavilion reaches further out into the wetland. The structure also forms a forced perspective that is only revealed when one steps foot off the boardwalk and onto the platform. There are places to sit and enjoy the view as well as bird feeders and posts to encourage wildlife interaction.
